Ram Wrestlers Win Three Duals; 14th at Tough Keen Invitational

Greene County Ram wrestling kicked off the 2021-22 season on Tuesday, Nov. 30, with a triangular meet in Van Meter, winning all three duals. The Rams went 30-11 in matches for the meet.
“We came out a little slow against PCM. We had some good matches and the end result was in our favor, but we were not aggressive on our feet and our technique was sloppy,” lamented coach Zach Beekman. “Our duals against Ogden and Van Meter were improved, but still lacked discipline with our technique through the entire lineup. Although there were several guys that had good performances, we know the importance of needing the entire lineup to perform at a high level if we want to compete for a state dual appearance.”
The Rams took the PCM Mustangs 64-18 to start the night.

The Rams saw more mat time on Friday and Saturday with a two-day tournament at the Cliff Keen Independence Invitational. With stiff competition, the Rams finished 14th out of 28 teams.
McKinley Robbins was the top finalist for the Rams, finishing in second in the 132 weight class. Gavin Scheuermann took third in the 152 weight class, while Brenner Gallagher at 138, Michael Rumley at 220 and Broc Hamann at 285 each took seventh in their classes. The only other top 10 finisher for Greene County was Nathan Black, who finished 10th in the 160 weight class.
“Varsity traveled to Independence where they competed in the two-day Cliff Keen Tournament. This is our first year attending this tournament and the level of competition was exactly what we needed,” explained Beekman. “Six of the 11 varsity wrestlers that traveled placed in the top 10.”
“Broc Hamann earned the Underdog Award. This award is given to the individual who moves the most spots between where they were seeded and where they placed,” added Beekman. “Broc was seeded last (26th) out of all the 285 pound wrestlers and placed seventh. A great accomplishment for the sophomore.”
